Col. E. Scott Smith, commander of the 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Virginia National Guard, lays a wreath in a ceremony held at the Franco-American memorial in Graignes, France June 5, 2016. The ceremony commemorates the 73rd anniversary of D-Day, the largest multi-national amphibious landing and operational military airdrop in history, and highlights the ' steadfast commitment to European allies and partners. Overall, approximately 400 service members from units in Europe and the are participating in ceremonial D-Day events from May 31 to June 7, 2017.
