This species occurs on the seacoast of temperate and tropical America,frequenting the beaches, where it is often met with in pairs or small occasionally occurs as far North as New Jersey. Stragglers have beentaken near Grand Menan, Maine, and on the coast of Massachusetts. It isa common species in Florida, whei^e it breeds.
