The boundary extensions of Quebec, Ontario and Mani-toba were discussed in the House at Ottawa this week. Thegovernment proposes that Ontario shall have a five-milewide strin from the proposed boundary to the Nelson River;a frontage of ten miles along the east bank of the river forterminals, docks and elevators ; a two-hundred-foot right-of-. way to the Hudson Jiay Railway to connect with FortChurchill; and exemption from taxes on land in Manitoba. The boundaries of Manitoba and Quebec will also beextended. The subsidies to which Manitoba would be entitledapart from the present arrangement, on July 1st, 1912, wouldtotal for the year $883,438. This compared with the Albertasubsidy of $1,260,105 and Saskatchewan $1,551,820. The present area of the provinces are about as follows: Square miles Quebec 351,873 Ontario 260,860 Manitoba The additional territory would represent (roughly) the following areas: Square miles Quebec 355,ooo Ontario • • • Manitoba 180,000 The accompanying sketch shows the new territory pro-posed to be added to the three provinces.
