Case had a fine collection of flowering shrubs, and Walter Hunne- well, T. D. Hatfield, superintendent, rhododendrons and vases of Flanders poppies, which latter attracted a lot of attention. George F. Stewart, of Waltham, showed half a dozen large and well flow- ered specimens of calceolarias, such as Stcwartii and Lynianii, all varieties of his own raising. Lectures on native plants each day of the show, by Kenneth W. Gillett, South- wick, Mass., attracted large audiences and many questions were asked of the lecturer. The Massachusetts Horticultural So- ciety has appropriated $.3,000 for a spe- oiar exhibition of native and exotic ferns, to open September 25. Brome- lias, selaginellas and orchids will also be featured. W. P. Rich, secretary of the society, has recently visited prom- inent trade and private growers in the east and secured offers of support for this show. The sum of $3,000 has also >)een appropriated for a spring show of bulbs, to be held in 1922. Bulb gardens covering 300 feet, for i)rivate growers, and 500 feet, for commercial growers, will be included. At the fall show of ferns, etc., eight large gold, twenty small gold and twenty-six silver medals,
