To Mr. Milne un-doubtedly there must be given the credit B 2 •20 THE CHURCHES OF ABERDEEN of restoring Gilcomston to the high pointin numbers which it has never since the close of his ministry, thechurch was subjected to a large and im-portant scheme of enlargement and im-provement, which resulted in providingthe congregation with what was. Rev. William Brebner, practically a new building. After 30 yearsof active work, Mr. Milne applied for theappointment of a colleague and successor,and in 1876 the present minister was ap-pointed to that position. Mr. Milne con-tinued to manifest a keen interest in thework of the church until his death ; andhis memory is perpetuated by the MilneFund, which provides an annual sum ofnearly £200 for the relief of deservingpoor in Gilcomston Parish. Rev. William Brebner, , who hasheld the sole pastorate since Mr. Milnes death, i<s a native of Tarland, and agraduate of Aberdeen University. Oncompleting his college course; he was ap-pointed assistant to Rev. J. W. King,Kilpatrick, Glasgow, where he laboureduntil he was elected to Gilcomston. , unlike some of his predecessors,is in no sense a prominent public personage. He is rarely, if ever, seen enpublic platforms; his voice is aeldo«nheard in the Church courts; and
