An Avar sword with gold inlay, Hungary, 7th/8th century. Slender, single-edged blade with ridges on both sides and a double-edged point. Iron sleeve over the base of the blade. Straight, bevelled quillons, with gold-inlaid decorative bands on both sides. Strong tang, retaining one grip rivet, and a hollow work iron pommel. Cleaned excavation discovery. Length 123 cm.
