Ancient sunken lane in Brede High Woods near Battle Sussex bought by the Woodland Trust in September 2007


Brede High Woods is a large complex of ancient woodland, heathland and plantation located in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is rich in history and biodiversity. As far back as the Iron Age and Roman period, these woods were used to produce charcoal for smelting. The area was at the centre of the medieval iron industry
