Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell (1857-1941) -- This one pound Gold bar (both sides shown) was presented to Baden Powell by Croydon Gold Field Mines for his part in the seige of Mafeking. The inscription reads " A Tribute to Valor from the Croydon Gold Field, North Queensland - To Baden Powell of Mafeking from his admirers on the Croydon gold Field, North Queensland [ Australia]. This one pound bar of gold is 24 Carat, And so are you.' Gold deposits were discovered at Croydon Downs by W C Brown & the Aldridge brothers (or by Tom McEvoy?) in 1885.
