. 3rd Battery, 1st Brigade, 1st Division, Australian Field Artillery Gunner Bias was born in Birsay, Orkney Islands in 1887 and emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1909. He enlisted in Australia on outbreak of war and sailed from Melbourne on board HMAT Ceramic on 22 December 1914. Gunner Bias was killed in action, aged 30, at Ypres on 21 July 1917. He is buried at Reninghelst Cemetery, Belgium. JV Bias' service number is 1750.
