Sf. Nicolai Mihai Voda church, Bucharest, Romania
ROMANIA BUCHAREST. Sf. Nicolai Mihai Voda church, one of the few surviving medieval churches of Bucharest. During Ceausescu regime a lot of churches and historical monuments were demolished in order to create space for the Civic Centre urban project, a vandal act of a megalomaniac dictator. Mihai Voda church, built by Michael the Brave in 1591, survived just because they moved it 280 east on rails. The cloister and other buildings of the former monastery were demolished. Now the church stands in a backyard surrounded by blocks of apartments.
