Campotosto Lake is the largest artificial lake in Abruzzi. It is located entirely in the province of Aquila, between the towns of Campotosto (hence the name), and L'Aquila Capitignano. The lake is part of the state nature reserve of the same name, established on an area of 1,600 hectares in 1984 to protect the natural environment and the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga.
