Toritos de Pucara or Pucara Bulls

Originally these bulls were used to hold chicha - a fermented corn drink. When the high priest conducted the cattle branding ceremony the chicha was mixed with blood of the cattle and symbolically drunk to protect the cattle. Nowadays these pottery bulls can be seen of the roofs of rural houses in Peru to ensure health and wealth for the family.
