The grainingmaterials are the same as those used in a graining-machine,and the pressure on the graining material must not be tooheavy; a block of wood covered with an iron plate being asgood as any weight to press the cutting sand on the zinc sur-face, while this iron-faced block is moved around in smallcircles. The best advice that could be given here is to not attemptto grain your own plates by hand. Better purchase themalready grained, as photoengravers do their polished zinc andcopper.
