Guernsey's Jurats in purple robes and members of the Royal Court follow Bailiff Richard Collas in fur lined purple robes during the 73rd Liberation Day Celebratory Procession. On Mr Collas' left walking by his side is The Lieutenant-Governor His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder KBE 's purple robed Jurats are elected lay people who act as a jury and are judges of fact in civil and criminal prosecutions. They preside in such cases with a Judge - the Bailiif, who directs them on matters of law. May 2018 - a public holiday in the State of Guernsey to celebrate Liberation Day on the 9th, one day after VE Day.
