Members of the Wholesale Grass Seed Dealers' Association held informal meet- ings in Chicago September 30 and Octo- ber 1. Not all members of the trade realize that the new freight classification re- quires prepayment of freight on bulbs and nursery stock. The shipping season is about over with the Illinois Seed Co., Chicago, according to Thomas J. E. Kemp, and business will be rather quiet until the beginning of next year. A TEAR ago this column predicted that, contrary to general belief, the 1920 seed season would not be so good as its prede- cessor. Risking the reputation gained by that prognostication, better business may be looked for in 1921. The commission box people, urged to make cheap packets because of the lower prices of seeds, find themselves in a hole. Nickel packets are impossible so long as expenses are so high, but it does not sound well to tell the public that the value of the packet ia elsewhere than in ^its contents. WHOLESALE DIBECTOBS MEET. Discuss Prices and Prospects. The directors of the Wholesale Seeds- men's League and a few invited guests held a meeting Thursday, September 30, at the Hotel Sherman, Chicago, for the consideration of general trade condi- tions. Prices occupied a large share of the discussion, but comparatively few changes were made in the tentative price schedule issued last May. The meeting, which began about 10:30, ad- journed a
