A large dark coloured terrapin, the Serrated Hinged Terrapin is found in most permanent lakes and rivers in Eastern and souther Africa. The female digs nest in the sandbanks and mudflats and lays upto 30 eggs at a time. They have a catholic diet and will scavenge as well as hunt.
