5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (July 20, 2017) Gunner's Mate 2nd Class Matthew Avila, from Fresno, Calif., gives weapon familiarization training aboard the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Howard (DDG 83). Howard is deployed in the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
