September 16, 1893. 243 PUSEY He was born February 6th,1840, on a farm now adjoiningthe Borough of Upland, in Dela-ware County, Pennsylvania. Hewas the son of William and Martha(Button) West. His grandfatherwas Samuel West, his great grand-father, William West; his greatgreat grandfather, John West,called by the descendants, the emi-grant, who came from England in1715; the wife of John was SarahPearson, and one of their sons wasBenjamin West, the celebratedpainter, he being a younger brotherof William West, who was thegreat grandfather of the presentWilliam Pusey West. The housein which Comrade West was bornwas built in 1696, and it and theadjoining farm were purchased byWilliam W^est (his great grandfather), and it remained in pos-session of the family until a few years ago. Comrade West enlisted in Company H, of the 124th, andwas promoted to Commissary-Sergeant of the regiment Sep-tember 1st
