National Military Museum Netherlands, Soesterberg, Netherlands. Architect: Felix Claus + Dick van Wageningen Architecten, 2014.
The specially designed building has a floor area of 35,000 m2 and is 17 metres tall. The enormous roof is 110 x 250 metres in size. The NMM lies in Soesterberg Air Base Park, which has long been a very important place for Dutch military aviation. Six themed rooms demonstrate how the armed forces are interwoven with the world around us. The museum brings together the collections of the former Military Aviation Museum in Soesterberg and the Army Museum in Delft. Surrounded by extensive grounds, the transparent building links the military heritage of the collection with the history of the surrounding area and landscape.
