Barnaby's Sands Marsh SSSI near Preesall on the River Wyre Lancashire
Looking north along the flood bank of the River Wyre near Preesall in Lancashire. To the left of the image is the SSSI of Barnaby's Sands, where the rare estuarine marsh habitat has been covered by a high tide, to the right hand is reclaimed farmland. This site is the subject of a hotly disputed planning application by American firm Halite to use the caverns of the old ICI brine wells beneath this whole area as gas storage.
