Congenital hip dislocation surgery. Surgeon operating on a 15-month-old girl with congenital dislocation of the hip (CDH). CDH causes the hip joint to repeatedly dislocate due a defect in the structure of the joint. Here it is caused by an abnormally shaped femoral head. The femoral head is the end of the femur (thigh bone) and forms the ball in the ball-and-socket of the hip joint. This surgery will re-shape the femoral head and insert a plate to hold the femur in the correct position, in order to prevent future dislocation.
