Three-dimensional, computer-generated images of the skull & head of Ta-bes, a female Egyptian mummy, compiled from CT (computed tomography) x- ray data. The image was obtained without resort to opening Ta-bes's painted cartonnage coffin, which was placed intact inside the cylindrical CT scanner. From inscriptions on the coffin, it is known that Ta-bes, who lived around 900 , was a singer in the Temple of Amun in Karnak. The CT examination was a collaboration between the Museum of Fine Arts & Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston, USA, and was aimed at finding medical condition at time of death & to evaluate present condition with regard to conservation & museum display.
