A negative diagnosis ofstone may be made, and in some cases the cause of the obstruction may bedetermined by a careful examination. In doubtful cases of kidney disease there are other methods of examina-tion which may be regarded as supplementary to the methods described. Theexamination may be rendered more valuable and absolutely diagnosticin suspected stone in the ureters, or when shadows are shown in the line ofthe ureters, by the passage of opaque bougies into the bladder and ureter. Aradiograph taken should show the bougie in the canal, and the relationshipof the shadows to it. A second method in doubtful cases is to inject into.
