At a short distance from Kursalee is a celebrated hot spring, issuing from the bed ofa torrent that falls into the Jumna, at a place called Banass. This torrent bursts fromthe cleft of one of a range of mountains which hem in a small valley, or rather dell, andrushes down, in one unbroken volume, from a height of eighty feet. The hot springrises from the base of an opposite mountain, and mingles its waters with those of itscolder but more impetuous neighbour. The water is of scalding temperature, and willnot admit of the immersion of the hands or feet for a single moment, the thermometerstanding at 144° when placed in the nearest part of the spring
