Tamils hunger striker in Parliament Square as the military in Sri Lanka close in on Tamil Tigers and Tamil civilians

Tamils demonstrated against the killing of their people in Sri Lanka in Parliament Square with a hunger strime which was on its 19th day when I took these pictures. Hunger striker Subramanyam Parameswaran was weak but in good spirits. Each day a team of supporters also fast outside the makeshift tent in which he lies, and many young Tamil men have pledged to carry on his hunger protest if he dies. The photograph in front of the hunger striker is of the LTTE (Tamil Tigers) leader Velupillai Prabhakaran who was killed by the Sri Lankan army a month after this picture was taken.
