The Sliropshire, which is a variety of the insititiaspecies, is probably the best known of the varieties that havedeveloped from the Damson variety. The trees surpassthose of all other varieties of insititia in vigor, hardiness, andfreedom from disease, and these qualities make the variety ageneral favorite. The fruit, which is illustrated in Fig. 16,is one of the best plums for culinary purposes and may also beeaten out of hand with relish when fully ripe or after a light.
