The Leaning Tower of Pisa showing the tower's incline compared to the straight vertical of the neighboring Basilica

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a world renowned attraction. It is one of 4 structures making up the Piazza del Miracoli or Piazza del Duomo. The tower designed as the bell tower to the Basilica next door is famous for a different reason. It leans away from the vertical. It is not only the tower but all the other structures also lean to some degree. The tower was built as a display of power and wealth by the city of Pisa in 1173. The tower has been stabilized to prevent it from collapse.
