Immediately after completing the 2017 Chicago Marathon, Abel Kirui of Kenya paused to prey at the finish line. Kirui finished second at the 40th running of the Chicago Marathon and was the defending 2016 Chicago Marathon champion. The Chicago Marathon is one of the world's six major marathon events annually joining the Boston, London, Berlin Tokyo and New York races.
