At the same time it has been found necessary in a fewinstances to define forms according to their variety or origin,as those resulting from volcanic or glacial action. In the caseof names which are locally peculiar to a Hmited portion of thecountry, the effort has been to indicate the regions in which theywere employed. The language whence derived is denoted bySp. for Spanish, Fr. for French, etc.; the word origin follow-ing indicates that it has been generally adopted in Americannomenclature.
