Conference House, Tottenville, Staten Island, New York

The Conference House was constructed around 1680 in Tottenville, Staten Island, as the residence of Royal Navy Capt. Christopher Billop (1628–1726). It is the only existing pre-Revolutionary manor house in New York City and is situated at Billop's Point, the southernmost point in New York City. The house was the site of a conference that attempted to end the Revolutionary War in 1776. The meeting was hosted by Lord Howe, commander-in-chief of British forces, and attended by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Edward Rutledge.
