Bags of avocados are seen in a supermarket in New York

Bags of avocados are seen in a supermarket in New York on Friday, March 7, 2014. Because of the long-term drought in California avocado production has dropped 40 percent. Prices are currently $26 per case with hikes up to double that amount by the summer. Mexican and other restaurants that serve guacamole are either raising prices or absorbing the additional costs for now. (© Richard B. Levine)
