The buildingis considered the masterpiece of the great architect, Richardson, andit is open to visitors every day, except Sunday, from 9 a. m. to 5 p. architecture is the French Romanesque. Its shape is that of aLatin cross, with a semicircular apse added to the eastern arm andshort transepts. The massive central tower is supported by four piers,close to the angles of the building, and stands on the square at theintersection of nave and transepts. The finial on the tower is 211 feet. The stone of which the walls of the church areconstructed is yellowish Dedham and Westerly granite, with freestonetrimmings. The vestibules are finished in oak and ash, and theinterior of the church in black walnut. The clear-story is carried byan arcade of two arches. Above the aisles a gallery is carried acrossthe arches, which is called the triforium gallery, and connects thethree main galleries, one across each transept, and the third acrossthe west end of the nave. The chancel is 57 feet deep and 53 feetwide. It contains beautiful stained memorial windows, a brasslectern, and a marble font. The decorative work of the interior isby John La Farge. In the great tower are painted colossal figuresof David and Moses, Peter and Paul, Isaiah and Jeremiah, withscriptural scenes high above. In the nave is a fresco of Christ and
