Very few were of heraldic character, but of this class the following examplesoccurred: chequy, perhaps for Warrenne; vairy; fleur de lis; a lion passant; a fesse. The illustrations (see Plates XXI—XXIII and Figs. 12 and 13) are sufficientlydescriptive of the best of the geometrical designs found. (iii) GLASS.—In uncovering the east end of the Lady Chapel a large quantity ofbroken glass was found, probably from the destroyed east window of that building. Themajority of it was of 14th century date, and though much decayed many fragmentswere still transparent. The largest bore a fine bearded face, another a small head, andthe rest were fragments of foliage, tabernacle work, inscriptions or plain blue, rubyor yellow (Figs. 14, 15, 16). (iv.) ARCHITECTURAL FRAGMENTS.—But few of these can be assigneddefinitely to any particular part of the structure.
