A two-handed sword, German, circa 1580 A heavy, cutting blade, broadening slightly toward the tip. The long ricasso has two parrying hooks curving toward the blade. Smith marks stamped on both sides. Blackened, iron quillons forged with decorative volutes. Large guard rings on both sides with a lily motif on the inside. The grip has the original, heavily worn, velvet covering with a decorative fringe. Fourfold grooved pommel. Length cm. Beautiful, completely original, unaltered sword. A two hander with identical marks is in the City Armoury of Vienna. Cf.,
