Hurricane Rita (yellow and red) over the Texas/Louisiana coast on 25th September 2005. This image, based on satellite data, shows the intensity of rainfall ranging from light blue (lightest), through green and yellow to red (heaviest). Rita made landfall between Sabine Pass, Texas, and Johnson Bayou, Louisiana, on 24th September as a category 3 hurricane. Rita formed only a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Louisiana and Mississippi coastlines.
