The larva is a general feeder on grasses, weeds, and sometimes becomes injurious on cabbage and other cultivated plants. M. grandis Bdv. Newark VI, 20, VIII, 6 (div); Elizabeth VI (Bz); Staten Island VI, Jamesburg VII (Ds), and probably throughout the northern part of the State; larva on burdock and a variety of other low plants. M. trifolii Rott. Throughout the State, V-X, common; larva on cabbage, clover, Cheno- podium, &c., and sometimes injurious. M. rosea Harv.
