Penile (genital) warts. Warts (condyloma acuminata) of the anogenital region are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), types 6 and 11. HPV infection is transmitted directly during sexual intercourse. There is a significant association in women between HPV infection & the cellular changes (\dysplasia\") which preceed cancer of the cervix. Genital warts are removed by chemical means, usually though a combination of applying podophyllin (an anti-mitotic) and caustic tricholoracetic acid. Recurrences are common."
