Chamank, 12, from a nomadic community, mixes dung with dried grass and water, to make dung cakes, used as fuel, in the village of Dar-e-Buzgala, in the central Bamyan Province. Their community consists of 10 families, or about 80 people, who constantly move in search of greener pastures for their cattle. Though their lifestyle ensures food for their herds and hence for their families, but it also keeps children out of school. Children must help the women with domestic chores and farming. The men typically travel long distances to markets, where they offer their services as day laborers. Afghanistan. July 6, 2007.
