The War Memorial in the Taormina Public Gardens , Sicily, Italy

The War Memorial in the Taormina Public Gardens. Taormina's greatest delights only a few tourists ever see is the presence of splendid villa, The Villa Comunale , a noble English woman's private garden named Florence Trevelyan-Cacciola , is now one of the most beautiful park anywhere , with its exotic garden , with fanciful brick pavillons , a cosy bar and a terrace with gorgeous view .This natural attraction sometimes called Parco Duca di Cesaro, is one of the most beautiful parks in Sicily. It was the creation of Lady Florence Trevelyan, in the late 19th century. She was an avid bird-watcher and included various amusements in the garden, including a fanciful stone-and-brick pavilion (probably conceived as a teahouse). Here you will see a large variety of exotic flowering plants and shrubbery. Lady Florence Trevelyan was brought up by Queen Victoria as a child and became own of her Ladies in Waiting. Suddenly she was given 48 hours to leave England in mtsterious circumstances, possibly she had been having an affair with Prince Edward who had recently been married and she was banished forever from England’s shores. She travelled widely and came to settle in Taormina on the Isola Bella and she bought this piece of land, demolishing several houses and formed these wonderful gardens where she watched birds and grew tropical flowers. On her death her Sicilian Professor husband donated the gardens to the town of Taormina in perpetuity
