Mr. Bonnell reported forthe new church as follows ; Tacomds First Church 95 The increase of population which followed the selection ofa site for the western terminus of the new Pacific railroad,adjoining Tacoma, brought Bishop Morris to this place. Hisfirst service was held in the school house on the 27th of July,1873. On the next Sunday I took charge of the services, andon the Sunday following they were held in a neat woodenchapel which had been built since the Bishops visit. Phisreport covers only four St. Peters Church, in 1874, with stump bell tower The Convention nexl was held in this modest little church in January. 1K74. Then, on Tuesday evening, the 20th, thefirst continuation class was presented to Bishop Morris, themembers being Mr. Atkinson and Mrs. \V. R. Kahlow. MayBuckalew Ferry, a child, was the first person baptized in eters. 196 St. Peters, In the erection of a small dwelling for the minister, buyingfurniture for the church and otherwise, a debt of $160 wascontracted, which bore heavilyon the congregation in organ costing $120 was received on the 21st of August. Aweek later a festival was held at which $100 was cleared. Thedebts were soon paid. October 11th a bell weighing 965pounds was received as a gift from the children of St. PetersChurch of Philadelphia. On the 18th it was rung for the firstservice, conducted by the Rev. P. E. Hyland.
