Clockwise from upper right are: a male condom and femidom (barrier methods), some IUDs, a cervical cap (diaphragm, lower left, also a barrier method), a syringe for injecting a long-term contraceptive, and a digital thermometer (top left) for the natural method of monitoring a woman's menstrual cycle. The syringe injection is a hormonal method of control, as are the skin implants (small sticks, centre right). IUDs placed in the uterus can prevent the implantation of a fertilised egg. The strings hang down inside the vagina, and allow removal of the IUD.
