Electronic jewellery. Megumi Fujikawa wearing her Engaged Ring. This electronic ring, an example of wearable technology, senses things like heart rate and communicates with a ring worn by someone else, such as a partner. The ring can vibrate and light up. Fujikawa has studied at the Royal College of Art, London, England, since 2001. The Engaged Ring developed from a project in her first year there. It won an award and is being developed by Orange mobile phone company. Wearable technology aims to develop and integrate computing and mobile phone technology, to design new interfaces, and to miniaturize the devices so that they are worn as normally as today's watches. Photographed in 2002.
