Under the general, and very incorrect appellation ofBay Snipe, and sometimes of Plover, tlie sea-shore gun-ners, and city fowlers who accompany them for pleasure,are wont to include many totally distinct and differentfamilies of waders, each containing several varieties, andall, though in some sort connected, entirely dissimilar incharacteristics, plumage, cry and flight, as well as insome peculiarities of habit.
