Stem's staff is not finding times dull by any means while he is away on a vacation. Patrick Orr says that they have had a nice wedding deco- ration every day so far in June and have had a number of large decorations in connection with the insurance con- vention and assemblage of dry goods men in this city. Two large banquet decorations came the same night. Mean- while there has also been much funeral work, making the early part of June a rush time instead of marking the be- ginning of the summer lull. Mrs. R. E. Darbce evidently believes in cutting off from business entirely when she goes on a vacation. She and her family left on a camping expedition in the redwoods of Humboldt county June 3 and were gone a week without the staff at the store hearing a word from them. The girls, as she calls her helpers, reported business keeping up well. Charles Stappenbeck, of the American Florist store, on Polk street, has no com- plaints to make about business, as his store supplies a year-around demand for flowers. He still has a line cut of roses and has been showing some good early dahlias. J. A. Axell is handling a fine cut of large gladioli from E. S. Biggard, of Santa Cruz, Cal., and is having good success with assorted colored gladioli from a local grower. Ferrari Bros, are sending in a nice lot of lily of the val- ley. Mr. Axell says business is holding up so well that he has had to postpone a trip east, which he Imd hoped to make this month. Henry Avansino, manager of the E. W. McLellan Co., says that extra de- mand helped to relieve the market last week, large (]unnt
