Sacre Coeur Basilica, Montmartre, Paris: Unknown statue of “Pere Rifaud”, a stonemason & entrepreneur who participated in Sacred Heart construction

The “Pere Rifaud” was a simple stonemason worker who became one of the most important entrepreneurs of the century with his masonry business. He notably built the Tuileries, the Paris City Hall and the new Sorbonne. Mischievously, below this portrait where Pere Rifaud is represented with his trough and his trowel, the sculptor wrote: "May he be forgiven a "; there were even a few more words that were deleted because they seemed to exceed the rights of satire. The statue, in the form of a modern gargoyle, is very difficult to see and its history little known.
