Remains of a rotted old sternwheeler with rebar sticking up, Ikeda Bay, Moresby Island, Haida Gwaii, BC

More than 100 years ago there was a mining operation at Ikeda Cove in southern Haida Gwaii. The remains of the G. M. Dawson sternwheeler, built in 1898 in Vancouver by Canadian Pacific Railways, still lie on the beach. All that remains are a few rotting logs and some rebar. It was brought in and beached at Ikeda Cove to be used as a bunkhouse. The sternwheeler was intended for use on the Yukon River, but was never used. It was towed north by the tug "Pioneer" in 1901 and got as far as Wrangell, Alaska, and abandoned. Her engines went on to the Yukon River and the body to Ikeda Cove.
