A beacon being tested on the eve of her Majesty's Golden Jubilee celebrations


"A British Gas Beacon for the Queen. Beacon organiser Bruno Peek testing the Queens Beacon on Great Yarmouth Beach Norfolk It was to form the last link in a chain of 1,589 beacons as they were lit all across the UK and Commonwealth on June 3rd 2002 to mark Queen Elizabeth IIs Jubilee The Golden Jubilee National Beacon Chain was sponsored by British Gas with a funding of pounds 50,000 plus the technical expertise needed to synchronise the chain. It was mirrored in 46 commonwealth countries and 17 other countries This beacon pictured is the one the Queen later lit in front of Buckingham Palace as the finale of her Golden Jubilee celebrations got under way."
