Close-up shot of a British Officer taken during a military re-enactment weekend on Boston Common. His majesty's regiments of foot reasserted their control over the Boston Common today with an encampment and a successful battle against rebel colonists. This shot was taken during the re-enactment where Redcoats pitched their tents to re-create Brits camping on the Common as they did in the 1775 siege of Boston and mark the 50th anniversary of the city's Freedom Trail. The United States of America's oldest public park, Boston Common was purchased by its citizens in 1634 for 30 Pounds and officially set aside as public or "common" land by a vote in 1640. The park's original purpose was for military training grounds and a place for grazing cattle.
