Many of our most flourisliiiig towns and cities look verymuch like tlie results of accident. There is scarcely any in-timation of plan or arrangement in their appeai-ance. Thepaths worn by the infrequent feet of the fiist settlers, havebeen insensibly widened into busy and crowded streets.
