BUTTERFIELD, Almon Thomas, second president of the West JoixlanStake of Zion, Salt Lake Co., Utah,was born July 5, 1868, at Herriman,Salt Lake Co., Utah, the son of AlmonButterfield and Elizabeth A. was baptized June 9, 1878, byThos. Mumford, ordained a Deacon in1880 and subsequently presided overthe Deacons quorum at Herriman,ordained a Teacher in 1886, ordainedan Elder Nov. 18, 1894, by , ordained a Seventy, Dec. 3,1896, by Seymour B. Young, and filled a mission to New Zealand in1896-1900, laboring principally in theWairarapa district. Prior to going onthis mission, or on Oct. 14, 1896, hemarried Sarah J. Crump (daughter ofWm. C. Crump and Sarah Cornick),who was born Sept. 2, 1873. By her. he is the father of eight children,namely, Tira A., Amy L., Marva, Al-mon F., Chas O., James E., Thos. Sarah Myrle. In 1904, he wasset apart as a president of the 94thQuorum of Seventy, which position heheld till 1911. In 1908-1911, he filleda mission to the Central States, pre-siding a part of the time over theSt. John conference; later he actedas secretary of the mission and stilllater as acting president of the Mis-souri conference. While on this mis-sion he visited Adam-ondi-Ahman,Carthage, Nauvoo and other placesclosely associated with the history ofthe Church. After his return fromthat mission, he was chosen a memberof the Jordan Stake Sunday SchoolBoard and in 1911 (Nov. 26th) he wasordained a High Priest and set apartas an alternate High Councilor byFrancis M. Lyman, and two yearslater was ordained a High Cou
